Conversational Content: What’s Your Website Saying?

When it comes to your presence online, it can be challenging to stand in a sea of websites where everyone is trying to catch your eye. That’s why it’s so important to use the right language, tone and even text layout when it comes to content.

Let’s start with the basics. What is conversational content? In my option, Drift said it best, “Conversational Content helps you start conversations with your ideal buyers while they’re – you guessed it – reading your content.” A great way to put this into perspective is to think about the last conversation you had with a friend? Did it go something like this - “I invite you to recall the time we traveled to Mexico…”? My guess is it did not. It probably went more like this - “Hey, do you remember that time in Mexico…”. Did you notice the shift in language and tone?

Conversational content is designed to not only improve your content game. It may also help you climb the ranks on the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) keyword ladder. But that’s a topic for another day. Today, I’m going to share with you 3 tips to help you improve your website content!

Keep it Simple

I know we all want to sound smart and well informed, but when you’re writing content for your websites, keep it simple. Stay away for wordy sentences and technical jargon. If you use technical mumbo-jumbo and confusing words, chances are you’ve lost a potential client.

Digestible Chunks

According to a study published by The Telegraph, our attention span is declining rapidly (think goldfish), so organize your text into small, digestible chunks of information. Do this by using:

  • Headers

  • Bullet Points or Lists

  • Or Infographics

When you use headers or bullet points, you allow for visitors to scan your site quickly for the information they came to find. If they can’t find what they’re looking for quickly and easily, chances are they’ve moved on to another site to find it.

Be Engaging

Probably one of the most important tips I can offer is to be engaging. Have you ever visited a website that was just so inviting and relatable that you’ve spent more time then you should have on it (and I don’t mean social media)? Did you love your experience? If so, did you share it on social media or tell a friend about it? That’s what I mean by engagement. Ask questions. Be authentic. Be you and your awesomeness will shine through, I promise!
